Victoria Monét, Thuy and DJ_Dave Discuss Their Independent Artist Journeys & Why They Have ‘Such an Amazing Bond’ With Their Female Managers

Click here to read the full article. Thursday (March 31) marks the last day of Women’s History Month, but the celebration and support of women in the music industry must persist. Valeisha Butterfield Jones, co-president of the Recording Academy, said, “There is a culture in music today of women supporting women, and women lifting other women up” while responding to the Recording Academy, Arizona State University (ASU) and Berklee College of Music Institute for Creative Entrepreneurship’s inaugural “Women in the Mix” study published earlier this month. Victoria Monét Would Rather Be Underrated Than Overrated

If you’re following the right people on Twitter, every so often you’ll scroll through your feed and see someone talking about how Victoria Monét is terribly overlooked. That the singer-songwriter, who has written for artists from Ariana Grande to Diddy, is being slept on. That her 2020 EP Jaguar, a brilliant collection of fun and sexy bangers, is not getting enough love. I’ve seen the tweets time and again, often nodding or instinctively hitting “like” in agreement. Victoria Monét has seen them too.

Victoria Monét Is Entering Her Solo Era

She learned to perform with confidence and also how to collaborate with other artists, a quality that served her well during her first big break, in 2008. Through MySpace, she caught the attention of Rodney Jerkins, the producer Darkchild, and he invited her to audition. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Los Angeles to join a girl group project called Purple Reign. She signed with Motown and began writing and recording. Monét approached the music industry with a relentless kindness, even though the industry was not always kind to her. Purple Reign recorded some tracks, but was dropped by their label before they could officially debut.

Check out a few other celebrity women who kept it very real about their struggles with hair loss after giving birth. Plenty of women have spoken openly about the way in which their bodies changed after giving birth. From the pressure to slim down to the separation of abs, loss of perkiness of breasts and healing required from incisions and tears, body after baby is a doozy. Not as openly discussed though is hair after baby. According to the American Pregnancy Association, about 40 to 50 percent of women will deal with postpartum hair loss. For those who’ve watched their hair fall out in the post-natal period, whether a complete loss of edges or patches here and there it can be a hit to one’s confidence during an already emotional time.
