Yankees’ Tyler Wade comes up with big plays in Corey Kluber’s no-no

ARLINGTON, Texas — Tyler Wade started the night on the bench with little indication he’d soon be part of history. But when Ryan LaMarre pulled up lame while running out a grounder in the third, everything changed. With the Yankees’ outfield battered by injuries, manager Aaron Boone turned to Wade...

Yankees' Tyler Wade: Triples in low-scoring win

Wade went 1-for-2 with an RBI triple and a run scored in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Rangers. Wade was called upon to enter the game in the third inning after Ryan LaMarre had to be taken out with an apparent right hamstring injury. The 26-year-old Wade came through in the sixth with an RBI triple on a sharply hit ball that rolled all the way to the wall in right-center field. He later would trot home to put the Yankees up 2-0 on a sac fly to left. The RBI was his first of the season and he could see some increased opportunities coming up with the outfield decimated by injuries.

Yankees' Tyler Wade: Three hits in big win

Wade went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Saturday's 8-2 win over the Orioles. Getting another start at shortstop in place of Gleyber Torres (COVID-19) and batting ninth, Wade doubled his hit total with his first multi-hit performance of the year. The utility infielder's .316 batting average looks good and he has scored five runs in only 21 plate appearances, but he's still looking for his first homer -- or even just his first RBI -- of the season and is 0-for-2 on stolen base attempts, including a caught stealing Saturday.

Yankees: Tyler Wade proves he has no place on roster after loss to Orioles

Once again, there’s plenty of blame to go around after the New York Yankees‘ latest loss. They split the four-game series with the Baltimore Orioles. They left 12 runners on base. They hit 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position. Clint Frazier didn’t get a hit again. Jordan Montgomery was removed after 74 pitches and five innings of work. Darren O’Day failed to hold down the fort in the eighth.

Yankees' Tyler Wade: Candidate for call-up

Wade is seen as an option to be promoted to the big-league roster from the Yankees' alternate training site, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Wade spent the early part of the season on the active roster, going 1-for-3 and serving primarily as a pinch runner and late-inning replacement before being shipped to the alternate site April 10. Jay Bruce's retirement Sunday leaves open an empty roster spot and a need for a backup first baseman, though Mike Ford might be the most logical candidate for the role. Wade has yet to play first base in the majors, spending most of his time in the middle infield and in the outfield.
