The Chiefs traded a first-round pick to acquire left tackle Orlando Brown and paid Joe Thuney a five-year, 80-million contract to land their starter at left guard. Former Tennessee offensive lineman Trey Smith formally kicked off his NFL career this weekend by participating in rookie minicamp for the Kansas City Chiefs, who drafted him in the sixth round (226th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft. Smith arrived in Kansas City last week, signed his four-year rookie deal and got a new jersey number before going through his first NFL practices. Smith met with reporters virtually via Zoom on Sunday, the final day of the three-day rookie minicamp with the team.

Trey Smith gets new jersey number with Chiefs

After wearing No. 73 throughout his standout career at Tennessee, Trey Smith is getting a new number with the Kansas City Chiefs. The defending AFC champions revealed via their Twitter account on Friday that the two-time All-SEC offensive lineman and sixth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft will wear No. 65 in Kansas City. With the Chiefs and most of the rest of the NFL holding rookie minicamps this weekend, Smith and the rest of Kansas City's draft class are on site and getting their first work in with their new teams.

The first of two former Tennessee players selected in the 2021 NFL Draft last month has signed his rookie contract. The Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday announced they had signed their entire draft class, including offensive lineman Trey Smith, the two-time All-SEC selection for the Vols the defending AFC champions picked in the sixth round (226th overall). Smith was a projected third-round pick and a top-100 prospect in the draft, but slid due to concerns about his medical history after blood clots in his lungs threatened his football career during his sophomore season at Tennessee.
