Van Riemsdyk (upper body) was activated from injured reserve and is playing Sunday against visiting Minnesota, JJ Regan of NBC Sports Washington reports. The 30-year-old blueliner missed five games with the injury, but he's taking pregame line rushes ahead of Sunday's game on the third pairing with Justin Schultz and has evidently recovered. Van Riemsdyk will look to build on his 14 points in 58 games this season.

Van Riemsdyk scored a goal in Friday's 5-0 win over the Stars. Van Riemsdyk tallied at 13:08 of the first period, providing the Capitals with a little extra insurance in the blowout win. The 30-year-old hasn't done much on offense this season -- the goal was his first of the season, and he's picked up five of his 12 points through 12 appearances in January. The defenseman has added 48 shots on net, 72 blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating while mainly playing in a bottom-four role.
