On June 15, 2021 Deputy Steven Williams was patrolling the area of HWY 278 East when he observed a white passenger car traveling westbound which had an inoperable driver’s side tail light. Deputy Williams conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and observed a female in the front passenger seat with bruising and swelling to the face. The female stated that her husband, which was the driver of the vehicle, identified as Jonathan Garrison age 36 of Desha County, had struck her several times with his fist and at some point drove the car down a farm road, stopped the vehicle and threw her in a drainage ditch, pushed her head underwater several times and threatened to kill her and her children. The female stated Garrison also put the children, age 5 and age 7, in the drainage ditch but that she jumped in and helped them out of the water. The female stated that Garrison would not allow her or her children to get out of the vehicle and leave. Jonathan Garrison was arrested and transported to the Drew County Detention Facility. Garrison was charged with Domestic Battery 3rd Degree (2 counts), Aggravated Assault on a family member (3 counts) and Kidnapping (3 counts) Garrison appeared before Judge Bruce Anderson for a first appearance on June 17, 2021 and his bond was set at $500,000. Garrison remains in jail at this time.
