Jake Paul confirms new opponent as Tommy Fury fight falls through for second time

Jake Paul will fight Hasim Rahman Jr on 6 August, after the YouTube star’s bout with Tommy Fury fell through for a second time. YouTube star Paul was scheduled to box Fury – half-brother of heavyweight champion Tyson – in Tampa in December, but Fury withdrew from the contest while citing injury and illness. The fight was rescheduled for 6 August at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, but Fury has again been forced to pull out – this time due to travel issues.

Tommy Fury out of pay-per-view main event vs. Jake Paul

Jake Paul (5-0, 4 KOs) is in need of a new opponent a month out from his scheduled pay-per-view main event at Madison Square Garden. The social media star turned professional boxer announced on Wednesday that Tommy Fury (8-0, 4 KOs) is out of their August 6th matchup in New York. Fury currently cannot enter the United States for reasons initially reported as having to do with the family’s ties to Daniel Kinahan, although according to Boxing Scene’s Jake Donovan that is not the case. Whatever the reason is that Fury is barred from traveling to the US, Team Paul had a hard deadline of Wednesday to resolve this and it obviously hasn’t been resolved.

Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury Is Now Cancelled

After being announced back in June, the upcoming Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury fight is now officially cancelled. Thanks to a US visa issue with boxer Tommy Fury, is unable to compete against Paul at Madison Square Garden as originally planned. He had been given a deadline of Wednesday to figure out his issues, but couldn't make that deadline.

Paul, the YouTube star-turned-prizefighter, wrote today on Twitter that he sent Fury a termination notice, acknowledging that he is officially out of their planned August 6th fight at New York's Madison Square Garden. Paul wrote that he would "take on a new opponent on short notice" but did not say who that opponent would be.
