Rock Hall announces class of 2021: Tina Turner, Carole King, The Go-Go's, JAY-Z, Foo Fighters, Todd Rundgren

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its class of 2021. The inductees are: Foo Fighters, The Go-Go's, Todd Rundgren, Carole King, JAY-Z and Tina Turner. "This diverse class of talented inductees reflects the Hall’s ongoing commitment to honor artists whose music created the sound of youth culture,” John Sykes, chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation said in a statement.

1974: Todd Rundgren Gives Midnight Special A Special Show

Todd Rundgren appeared on The Midnight Special – the episode aired on February 8, 1974 and he was introduced by no less than Tina Turner. This vintage footage is resurfacing now because these two artists are part of The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2021 inductees. Tina Turner was previously inducted with Ike Turner back in 1991.

Tina Turner, Carole King and Todd Rundgren are among the long-overlooked artists who have been selected for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2021. The announcement today (May 12) included a whopping 13 new inductees. Also joining the class this year are the Go-Go’s, Jay-Z and the Foo Fighters. In addition, the Hall has selected Kraftwerk, Charley Patton and Gil Scott-Heron for the Early Influence Award, as well as LL Cool J, Billy Preston and Randy Rhoads in the Musical Excellence category.

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame’s 2021 class of inductees was announced this morning, and naturally, most of the artists honored are pretty excited. I say “most” because it seems Todd Rundgren doesn’t really care all that much. As Billboard notes, his response to the news was a simple statement that doesn’t convey his feelings about the situation: “I’m happy for my fans. They’ve wanted this for a long time.” This comes a few months after he told the publication, “It’s no secret I don’t care about [the Hall Of Fame].”

Todd Rundgren, Foo Fighters and Randy Rhoads Honored by Rock Hall

Todd Rundgren, Carole King, the Go-Go's, Foo Fighters and Tina Turner will be part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's 36th induction class. Randy Rhoads and Billy Preston have earned musical excellence awards. Preston was a trusted sideman with the Beatles and Rolling Stones while also charting with several solo hits. Rhoads was a guitarist with Quiet Riot and Ozzy Osbourne. Elsewhere, Kraftwerk were among those recognized as an early influence.
