Mariners' Taylor Trammell: Recalled, starting Sunday

Trammell was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma and is starting in right field and batting ninth Sunday against the Red Sox. The 24-year-old missed out on the Opening Day roster and appeared in three games for Tacoma before landing on the minor-league injured list, but he's now healthy after playing in games at extended spring training and will join the major-league roster. Trammell made his MLB debut in 2021 and had a .160/.256/.359 slash line and 42.1 percent strikeout rate in 51 games, and he'll need to perform better this year if he's to retain a roster spot. Kyle Lewis (knee) is expected to return from the injured list Monday, and Justin Upton, who signed with Seattle on Saturday, is set to join the team in the near future, so Trammell will likely have a short window to illustrate he should remain in the big leagues.

Mariners' Taylor Trammell: Beginning season at Triple-A

The Mariners optioned Trammell to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday. Trammell broke camp with the big club in 2021, but after turning in a .160/.256/.359 slash line with a 42.1 percent strikeout rate across 178 plate appearances in multiple stints with Seattle, he didn't see any action with the Mariners after mid-July. Though his production at Tacoma was much better (.818 OPS, 22.9 K% in 323 plate appearances), he didn't mash at a level that made him a strong candidate to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster this time around. Trammell will thus return to Tacoma to begin the 2022 campaign, and his odds of getting an extended look in the majors will likely dim further once the Mariners are ready to give top prospect Julio Rodriguez a look in the big leagues.

Mariners' Taylor Trammell: Optioned to Triple-A

Trammell was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma prior to Sunday's game against the Angels, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports. The move comes as little surprise as Trammell was absent from the starting lineup during five of the last six games while being in the midst of a 4-for-34 skid at the plate. Still considered one of the Mariners' top prospects, Trammell will look to work things out in Tacoma as he tries to earn his way back to the big leagues later this season.
