Rangers' Tarmo Reunanen: Shipped to AHL

Reunanen was reassigned to AHL Hartford on Sunday, CapFriendly reports. Reunanen appeared in four NHL games this season and recorded his first career point. The 23-year-old blueliner will head back to the minors, where he's scored 17 points in 21 games.

Reasonable expectations for Morgan Barron and Tarmo Reunanen

The Rangers will get a pair of rookies in the lineup tonight. Fresh off their “elimination” from the playoffs and subsequent injuries, the Blueshirts recalled both Morgan Barron and Tarmo Reunanen. Both have been solid in Hartford, and both were deserving of a recall. However neither is a savior, and neither is going to be a game breaker right out of the gate. Keeping expectations in check for both Barron and Reunanen will go a long way for the last week of the season.

Rangers recall Morgan Barron and Tarmo Reunanen

It’s like the Rangers read my post this morning. The Rangers have recalled forward Morgan Barron and defenseman Tarmo Reunanen from the Hartford Wolf Pack. Both players have looked solid in Hartford. Barron has been at a point per game, with a line of 10-11-21 in 21 games. Reunanen has been an offensive machine on the blue line, with a line of 4-13-17 in 21 games. Both are very deserving of their call up.

Reunanen was recalled by the Rangers from AHL Hartford on Friday. Reunanen has played well in the minors this season, picking up four goals and 17 points in just 21 contests. The 2016 fourth-round pick also made his NHL debut March 15 against the Flyers, notching an assist in 8:57 of ice time. He could crack the Rangers' lineup as soon as Saturday versus the Islanders.

Rangers playoff hopes on life support signals time to call up the Morgan Barron and Tarmo Reunanen

The playoffs were always a long shot. The Rangers organization knew it and so did the players. So when the Islanders defeated them 6-1 on a night where both the Penguins and Bruins won, they knew it was over. Still, they came into last night’s contest ready to go. An early goal from Brendan Smith gave hope for another offensive explosion against the Flyers, but Brian Elliott made big save after big save to set up the eventual fall.

Rangers' Tarmo Reunanen: Added to taxi squad

Reunanen was promoted to the taxi squad Monday, according to CapFriendly. Reunanen notched an assist in his NHL debut on March 15 but is still just an extra body at this point. He'll likely head back to AHL Hartford in the near future.

Tarmo Reunanen steps up for Rangers with Adam Fox on COVID-19 list

So it was three men out and another up and in for the Rangers in Monday’s 5-4 Garden overtime defeat to the Flyers. Adam Fox, Pavel Buchnevich and Phil Di Giuseppe were all placed on the COVID-19 protocol list while Tarmo Reunanen was summoned from the AHL Wolf Pack and inserted into the lineup for what became the 23-year-old Finnish defenseman’s NHL debut.

Update: Pavel Buchnevich and Adam Fox on COVID list, Tarmo Reunanen expected to debut

The Rangers 22 year-old left handed defenseman from Finland, didn’t have a great camp. At the same time it was an abbreviated one with not even a single exhibition game. Tarmo Reunanen however has picked up where he left off in Liiga. He’s using his size and hockey sense to lead the Wolf Pack blue line. Thus far in four games for Hartford he has 2 goals and 4 points without a single penalty.
