UMass women’s basketball wins FIU Thanksgiving Classic title, Sydney Taylor named MVP

MIAMI, Fla. – University of Massachusetts women’s basketball closed out the FIU Thanksgiving Classic with a 95-78 win over Florida International University to garner the FIU Thanksgiving Classic Championship. The victory gives the Minutewomen their fifth straight, improving them to 6-1 on the season, while marking the first multi-team event tournament won by the program since the Brown Bear Classic in December of 2008.

Sydney Taylor reaches millennium mark in career points against UMass Lowell

Sydney Taylor became the 23rd player to score 1000 points for the Massachusetts women’s basketball team during Tuesday’s 71-53 win over UMass Lowell. Coming off a 23-point performance against Harvard on Friday, Taylor was just six points away from the mark. With just over a minute gone since tip-off, Taylor knocked down her first 3-pointer of the game and put UMass (4-1) on the board.

The dynamic duo of Makennah White and Sydney Taylor gave UMass the boost it needed against Harvard on Friday night. White dominated the first half while Taylor took care of things in the latter half, and the Minutewomen earned a hard-fought 77-67 road win against a tough Harvard team. The victory improved UMass’ record to 3-1 on the season, its only loss coming on the road against No. 5 Tennessee.

Sydney ‘swish’ Taylor lived up to her nickname on Wednesday. The Massachusetts women’s basketball team was decked out in pink for its Play4Kay game and went out with a bang by defeating VCU 66-57 in its final home game of the 2021-2022 season. Sydney Taylor has been playing basketball since she was 7 years-old. When Taylor was younger, she was a lot shorter than her current height of 5′9, and she grew up surrounded by people who doubted her abilities.
