Linux Foundation initiative advocates open standards for voice assistants

Organizations are beginning to develop, design, and manage their own AI-powered voice assistant systems independent of platforms such as Siri and Alexa. The transition is being driven by the desire to manage the entirety of the user experience and integrate voice assistance into multiple business processes and brand environments, from call centers to stores. In a recent survey of 500 IT and business decision-makers in the U.S., France, Germany, and the U.K., 28% of respondents said they were using voice technologies and 84% expect to be using them in the next year.

A total of 20 Medway students of all ages — from elementary to high school — took part in the virtual Special Olympics in April. Throughout May and June, athletes who participated received medals, provided by Special Olympics of Massachusetts, for their hard work and accomplishments.

Where DC ranks for mosquitoes

Summer means mosquitoes, and they are always plentiful in the D.C. area. Terminix ranks D.C. No. 4 on this year’s annual list of Top Mosquito Cities. The pest control company bases its list on internet search trends for mosquito mitigation from 2020. Florida had the highest search frequency for ways to get rid of mosquitoes, with six cities in the top 25. Five cities in Texas are in the top 25, and four are in California.

The abandonment of permits and training may come at a cost. On June 16th Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 1927 which eliminates the requirement for residents of the state to obtain a license to carry handguns if they’re not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing one already. They're also not required to have received any training in the safe or legal handling of a firearm.

Parkville Man, Brandon Beshore, Charged In Fatal East Baltimore Stabbing

BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ) — A 24-year-old Parkville man was arrested and charged in a fatal stabbing in east Baltimore Monday. Baltimore Police said an off-duty officer was on the 1900 block of Belair Road at 8 a.m. when he came across an unconscious man who had been stabbed several times. The officer called for on-duty backup, and then saw the suspect, identified as Brandon Beshore, fleeing the scene on a bicycle.
