Billy Decker wins Brewerton opener; Stewart Friesen dominates at Utica-Rome

Veteran racers Billy Decker and Stewart Friesen each picked up a feature win Friday night when the Brewerton and Utica-Rome Speedways opened their 2021 seasons. Decker led a Gypsum Express sweep of the top two positions in the 35-lap DIRT big-block modified main event in the 73rd Brewerton opening day event. Teammate Larry Wight was second Friday night, with Jimmy Phelps, Chris Hile and Tom Sears completing the top five finishers.

Stewart Friesen passes Matt Sheppard for $5K Delaware Speedway win

Brett Deyo’s Short Track Super Series Modified Tour headed south Tuesday night for the Diamond State 50 at the Delaware International Speedway. In the main event on the half-mile oval in Delmar, Delaware, Matt Sheppard led the first 43 laps off the outside pole, but Stewart Friesen moved up from the ninth starting position and passed the leader with six laps remaining and went on for the win.

Last week, it was Jessica Friesen making the big news. This week it’s Stewart Friesen. He and team Halmar International announced that Stewart will make his NASCAR Cup Series debut in the Food City Dirt Race at Bristol Motor Speedway on March 28. He will be attempting to qualify the Spire Motorsports No. 77 Chevrolet Camaro with crew chief Kevin Bellicourt and with Halmar International as a primary sponsor.

Stewart Friesen adds Cup race to his Bristol Dirt Track weekend

Friesen, who was already scheduled to compete in the March 27 Truck Series race at the Bristol Dirt Track, has added the March 28 Cup race on his schedule as well.
