Former Republic of Ireland full-back Stephen Ward links up with Walsall

Walsall have announced the signing of former Republic of Ireland full-back Stephen Ward on a one-year deal following his release by Ipswich earlier this summer. The 35-year-old ex-Wolves and Burnley defender made 31 appearances in all competitions for the Tractor Boys last season but learned in May that the League One club would not be offering him a new deal.

Stephen Ward to leave Ipswich

Former Republic of Ireland international Stephen Ward is to leave Ipswich after being told he will not be offered a new deal by the League One club. The 35-year-old full-back, who will be out of contract this summer, has made 29 league starts this season – the last of them against Wimbledon on April 24 – and one more would have automatically triggered a 12-month extension.
