Boyd Gaming will bring top entertainment to The Orleans Hotel and Casino and Cannery Casino Hotel in May. Grammy Award-winning singer Stephanie Mills will perform at The Orleans Showroom, and the annual Mother’s Day show by “ABBA The Concert – Tribute to ABBA” and the legendary rock group Night Ranger will come to Cannery’s The Club.

So many people died today, and I had to write a lot of obits. Not fun. But I couldn’t let James Mtume’s death today at 76 go unremarked upon. He played with Miles Davis during the early 70s He had his own hits like “Juicy Fruit.” He wrote “The Closer I Get to You” for Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway, and the amazing “Never Knew Love This Before” for Stephanie Mills with Reggie Lucas. (Lucas repurposed it a couple of years for “Borderline” by Madonna. Mtume’s song was first.)

Verzuz brings back ladies night for an old school soundclash between the R&B legends, Chaka Khan and Stephanie Mills. Presented by Hallmark and Mahogany, the two icons performed their classic hits. Although Chaka Khan was off her game a few times during the session, she brought her solo gems including “I Feel For You”, “Ain’t Nobody”, and “I’m Every Woman” as well as her Rufus “Everlasting Love”, “Tell Me Something Good” and “Sweet Thing”. Meanwhile, Stephanie Mills belted top-notched catalog including “Something In The Way”, “You’re Puttin’ A Rush On Me”, “What Cha Gonna Do With My Loving”, “Never Knew Love Like This”, “I Feel Good All Over”, and many more.
