Potential for career growth brought Spencer Richey back to Seattle

Some of Spencer Richey’s best sports memories are anchored to Seattle. He grew up watching Gary Payton toss alley-oops to Shawn Kemp at Key Arena; chugging Mountain Dew and munching on cotton candy in an effort to get on the big screen at Safeco Field; and rooting for the Seattle Sounders as they navigated the waters of lower-division soccer.

Seattle Sounders sign goalkeeper Spencer Richey, loan out Trey Muse

The Seattle Sounders have announced the signing of goalkeeper Spencer Richey, a Seattle native who was most recently with FC Cincinnati. Richey joins the team after a two-year spell with Cincinnati, where he played 29 games and recorded four clean sheets while splitting goalkeeping duties with Przemyslaw Tyton. Richey's time with Cincinnati came to an end following the 2020 season, when his contract expired.

Sounders FC signs goalkeeper Spencer Richey

SEATTLE, WASH. – Sounders FC today announced that it has signed goalkeeper Spencer Richey and loaned goalkeeper Trey Muse to USL Championship side San Diego Loyal SC. Richey, a Seattle native and University of Washington product, joins the Rave Green after five professional seasons with Vancouver Whitecaps FC and FC Cincinnati. Muse, a Homegrown Player signing prior to the 2019 campaign, has 24 appearances for Tacoma Defiance, including 21 starts in 2019. Richey joins Stefan Frei and Stefan Cleveland in Sounders FC’s goalkeeper group for the 2021 campaign.
