Denzel Curry Shares Cinematic Video for New Song “Zatoichi” f/ Slowthai

Denzel Curry has shared his new song “Zatoichi” with Slowthai. The track also arrives with a jaw-dropping Adrian Villagomez-directed video featuring dancer/performer Sophia Gaspard. Shot on location in Peru, the cinematic effort sees Curry once again delving into a sci-fi/Western aesthetic, similar to the video for his recent single “Walkin.” In this case, “Zatoichi” is inspired by the 1960s Japanese samurai movie character of the same name, as well as the Kill Bill Vol. 2. The YouTube description notes it’s dedicated to Richard Lewis Spencer, Gregory Coleman, and the Winstons.

Denzel Curry trains hard in the video for “Zatoichi” featuring slowthai

Zatoichi is a long-running Japanese media franchise following the adventures of a blind samurai. Because there are few things as cool as someone who can't see that's slicing the shit out of the sighted, Denzel Curry has wisely tapped the Zatoichi series for inspiration in his new song featuring slowthai and its music video.

Denzel Curry Learns Martial Arts From A Blind Master In His ‘Zatoichi’ Video With Slowthai

When I was in high school 20-something years ago, I would get up early every Saturday to watch Zatoichi movies on cable. One of Japan’s longest-running film series (seriously, think the Marvel movies but solely about the adventures of a blind samurai in 1830s and ’40s Japan), the movies were the equivalent of Saturday morning cartoons for me, but for the longest time, I felt totally alone in my love for them (I know I wasn’t — The Boondocks even referenced Zatoichi in the episode introducing Grandad’s feud with Colonel Stinkmeaner) but now, it looks like I have something in common with Florida rapper Denzel Curry.

slowthai played a wild $1 show at Baby’s All Right – Lil Yachty was there too (pics, setlist)

UK rapper slowthai made a quick trip to NYC to play Baby's All Right on Thursday night, a show that was only announced the day before and only cost $1. Needless to say, there was a giant line outside the club to nab one of the 40 tickets that would be available at the door -- the rest were given out via lottery -- and and those who braved the cold to get in were then met with a packed, sweaty, crazy show.

James Blake recruits Slowthai for new version of ‘Funeral’

James Blake has shared a new mix of his track ‘Funeral’, linking up with Slowthai to add an extra punch of heartrending emotion to the already poignant ballad. The new version of ‘Funeral’ stays largely faithful to the original, with the sole addition being Slowthai’s pensively rapped second verse. On it, he spits: “I spread my wings, I got a nose bleed / I been the dust on top of trophies, the rust that makes it homely / The crust that no one wants, I was forgotten, I’ve gone mouldy.”
