He typically is a strong offensive contributor in the minors, as he produced 21 goals and 14 assists across 50 AHL contests last year.

Dries had 7:41 of ice time in Sunday's 1-0 loss to the Golden Knights. Appearing in his second game of the season, Dries and Jayson Megna took up residency on the fourth line in a contest that Colorado played without Matt Calvert (upper body), Tyson Jost (COVID-19 protocol) and Gabriel Landeskog (COVID-19 protocol). All three could return to action this week -- head coach Jared Bednar expects Jost and Landeskog on Saturday -- so Dries may be in the lineup for Tuesday's game against Vegas.

Avalanche's Sheldon Dries: Playing Tuesday

Dries was called up from the taxi squad and will make his season debut Tuesday against the Wild, Scott MacDonald of Colorado Hockey Now reports. The Avalanche reached down for a center after it was announced Nathan MacKinnon (lower body) is week to week. Both MacKinnon and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare (knee) were deemed week-to-week, so Dries could be around for another week or more. He's serving as the center on the fourth line.
