LETTER: In praise of Sheldon Adelson

I first met Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson in 1995 at the original Sands Hotel when I was the program director for the Jewish Federation. They were hosting the Israel Independence Day Celebration that I helped organize. Las Vegas and Nevada have benefited greatly from their myriad mitzvahs (known and unknown) to our Jewish and non-Jewish community over the years. Miriam and Sheldon have sponsored galas and events at their properties for numerous nonprofit organizations. Each year, they bring local Holocaust Survivors together for a free Hanukkah brunch.

The Absolutely American Life of Sheldon Adelson

His father and mother were Lithuanian and Welsh, respectively, before they were American. He was poor before he was rich, a New Englander before he moved West and a Democrat before he was a Republican. Most people know his name, but few know his story. A story that's as absolutely American as they come.
Las Vegas,

Sheldon Adelson changed the Sands, Las Vegas and Macau

Sheldon Adelson, the CEO of Las Vegas Sands, has died. Forbes listed him as the 28th wealthiest person in the world with $33.5 billion. Adelson had three claims to fame. First, besides being the Sands CEO, he owned more of the company’s stock than anyone else. It was his Sands stock that put him on the Forbes list. Second, he was the largest individual donor to the Republican Party and the presidential campaigns of Donald Trump. He donated at least $100 million in each of the last two presidential election cycles. And third, he was a supporter of the State of Israel and its current prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. Besides the Sands, he owned two newspapers, the Las Vegas Review-Journal and Israel Hayom, a free daily in Israel.
