Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds with Shane MacGowan, Tuesday, 22.00, BBC4

This film is directed by Julien Temple and it seems that, with its blend of animation, archivery and new footage, it’s likely to be as entertaining and infuriating as the man himself. Of course nothing in his life story can be as amazing as the fact he’s actually still alive at the age of 63, and it’s probably true that a lot of his life can be over-romanticised when some of it isn’t very edifying and, as his comments about the band who beat him to Christmas number one in 1987 illustrate, he can often seem a bit unpleasant. But the stellar line-up of contributors queueing up to pay tribute illustrate the continued affection he’s held in, especially in his beloved Ireland.
