The art of Shane MacGowan, lead singer of the Celtic punk band The Pogues, will be on display at Rome’s newest art gallery, the Kingfisher Art Co. beginning Sunday, Nov. 14. The Rome International Film Festival presents “The Art of Shane MacGowan,” featuring a ticketed reception Sunday, Nov. 14 at 9 p.m. at Kingfisher Art Co. following a screening of “Shane MacGowan — Crock of Gold” at the DeSoto Theater at 6:30 p.m.

This film is directed by Julien Temple and it seems that, with its blend of animation, archivery and new footage, it’s likely to be as entertaining and infuriating as the man himself. Of course nothing in his life story can be as amazing as the fact he’s actually still alive at the age of 63, and it’s probably true that a lot of his life can be over-romanticised when some of it isn’t very edifying and, as his comments about the band who beat him to Christmas number one in 1987 illustrate, he can often seem a bit unpleasant. But the stellar line-up of contributors queueing up to pay tribute illustrate the continued affection he’s held in, especially in his beloved Ireland.
