New Jersey Devils: How Would We Evaluate Scott Stevens Play Today?

Once again, big hits are on the agenda for conversation among hockey’s biggest fans. It’s not one of the normal dirty players on the docket this time. There’s no Tom Wilson, Ryan Reaves, or Brad Marchand. This time, it’s the Winnipeg Jets Mark Scheifele who is part of the conversation. He absolutely drilled Jake Evans, and it was another situation where a player was hit to the point where he couldn’t get up despite his only transgression was trying to score on an empty net.

New Jersey Devils Should Try To Turn P.K. Subban Into Scott Stevens

Listen, nobody is going to like it when we use the names P.K. Subban and Scott Stevens in the same sentence. One was the captain that led the New Jersey Devils to three Stanley Cups while literally putting his entire body on the ice. He’s a Hall of Famer who will go down as one of the best all-around defensemen in history. The other is one of the biggest disappointments over the past two seasons. Subban was supposed to bring stability to the Devils’ defense, but he’s one of the main reasons for their volatility.

11/21/86 Punches thrown by Stevens weren't able to reach intended targets. Probert had him tied up pretty good. Bob Probert's Stamina is was put him above and beyond other enforcers. If you don't start out swinging and burn to much energy tugging and hugging, Probert will dominate. As he did here. Stevens dirty ass saved by the refs.

New York Rangers tough guy Tie Domi calls out Scott Stevens as a “phony”

If you were around for the epic battles between the Rangers and Devils, then you know who both Tie Domi and Scott Stevens are. Domi, probably the smallest heavyweight in NHL history feared no one. Proof positive when you look back at his epic battles against the greatest bruiser in NHL history, Bob Probert. As for Stevens, he was one of the game’s greatest hitters and basically ended Paul Kariya’s career with a bomb.
