IDW Announces New Originals Initiative Featuring Scott Snyder, G. Willow Wilson, John Ridley and More

IDW Publishing is launching a new line of original comics and graphic novels from some of the biggest names in the industry, including Scott Snyder, John Ridley, and G. Willow Wilson. New York Times best-selling authors, fan-favorite artists, and even newcomers will bring their talents to the IDW Originals initiative, as the publisher looks to release new original projects on a monthly basis. First up will be July's Dark Spaces: Wildfire by writer Scott Snyder and artist Hayden Sherman. The projects will range from genres such as crime thriller, supernatural horror, science fiction, epic fantasy, and more.

The Batman was finally released in theatres this month, and will already be available to stream on HBO Max in April. The movie, which was written and directed by Matt Reeves, had the second-biggest opening of the pandemic and is currently "Certified Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes with an 85% critics score after 432 reviews and an 88% audience score after 10,000+ reviews. Many people have taken to social media to share their thoughts about the new film, including comics writer Scott Snyder who is known for writing Batman. While The Batman isn't an adaptation of any one comic, Snyder recently wrote on Substack (via Bleeding Cool) his reaction to seeing some of the Batman moments he created appear in the movie.

This past summer, it was announced that Scott Snyder's Best Jackett Press is teaming up with comiXology for eight new comic books that will be released digitally as comiXology Originals before eventually being published as trade paperbacks by Dark Horse. In addition to that exciting news, it's now been revealed that We Have Demons (a new series co-created by Snyder and Greg Capullo that's now available to read on comiXology) will be published as individual print editions by Dark Horse in the spring of 2022 (released monthly beginning in March) before coming out in trade paperback in the summer of 2022.

Scott Snyder and Tony Daniel's popular Image Comics series Nocterra is being adapted as a television series for Netflix. On Monday, it was announced that Netflix is teaming with writer Robert Patino to develop the adaptation as part of a new, multiple-year overall deal Patino has with the streamer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Patino currently serves as showrunner for HBO Max's upcoming adaptation of DMZ. He will create and develop projects for Netflix via his Analog Inc. production banner.
