After another injury-plagued season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Scott Alexander was outrighted off the 40-man roster last November upon clearing waivers. However, Alexander because Alexander had more than five years of Major League service time, he was able to reject the assignment and instead become a free agent. The left-hander wound up electing free agency and remained available until this week.

LAS VEGAS – Zhang Zhilei’s power was entirely too much for Scott Alexander to take Saturday night. The huge Chinese heavyweight knocked out Alexander with a devastating straight left hand that knocked Alexander flat on his back in the first round. Referee Robert Hoyle quickly called an end to the action as Alexander clearly wasn’t fit to continue on the Canelo Alvarez-Dmitry Bivol undercard at T-Mobile Arena.

BoxingScene.com has learned that the unbeaten Chinese heavyweight will square off against American Scott Alexander in a 10-round fight on the Canelo Alvarez-Dmitry Bivol undercard Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena. Los Angeles’ Alexander (16-4-2, 8 KOs) replaced Croatia’s Filip Hrgovic (14-0, 12 KOs), who withdrew recently from what was supposed to be an IBF title eliminator versus Zhilei to determine the mandatory challenger for the upcoming rematch between champion Oleksandr Usyk and former champ Anthony Joshua.
