Samoa Joe returns to WWE NXT as enforcer authority figure

Samoa Joe has returned to NXT as an enforcer-like authority figure working alongside general manager William Regal. Joe made his return to NXT on tonight's TakeOver: In Your House fallout edition of the show, appearing on WWE television for the first time since being released by the company this April. In storyline, Regal wanted Joe to take over for him as general manager. But Joe declined that offer and said he would instead be happy to work with Regal and ensure that Regal receives the respect that he deserves.

Samoa Joe Reportedly Accepts NXT Position

When WWE made their multitude of releases from the roster earlier this year, fans were shocked at many of the names leaving the company, and Samoa Joe was at the top of that list. Not only was he an immense talent in the ring before an injury sidelined him, but in the time after he had excelled on the commentary desk as well. That's also why fans were excited when the rumors started that NXT was interested in bringing Samoa Joe in, and according to a new report by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, it appears he has accepted that offer. Now, Meltzer also noted that the position he accepted is for a non-wrestling role in the company, which might just be perfect timing after what happened on TakeOver.

In a shocking move Thursday afternoon, the WWE has released Samoa Joe, Wesley Blake, Billie Kay, Mickie James, and a number of other superstars from its roster. According to Pro Wrestling Sheet and an announcement via WWE's Twitter, the company revealed the firings in a statement issued on Thursday. Samoa Joe has been cut by WWE. Samoa Joe has been let go by WWE as of Thursday, April 15, 2021. Joe entered WWE in 2015 as part of NXT and transitioned to Raw in 2015. In recent months, Joe recently transitioned over to Monday Night Raw commentary and even called the most recent WrestleMania event before being transitioned out of the role on Monday night.
