City to hold Olympic send-off parade for Oxford’s Sam Kendricks and Shelby McEwen

The City of Oxford is planning to send its two Olympians off to Tokyo in style. During its meeting on Tuesday, the Board of Aldermen approved a request to hold an Olympic send-off parade around the portions of the Downtown Square area, North Lamar Boulevard and 14th Street for Sam Kendricks and Shelby McEwen. The parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. on July 16.

Sam Kendricks makes second US Olympic team

Sam Kendricks is heading to Tokyo. The Oxford native qualified for the US Olympic team after a top three finish in the men’s pole vault of the US Olympic trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, on Monday. It is Kendricks’ second Olympics after making his debut at the 2016 Olympic summer games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Sam Kendricks, Ole Miss Alumnus and World Champion, Comes Back Home

Ole Miss alumnus and pole vaulting champion Sam Kendricks took time out of his day to visit his alma mater last Friday. Kendricks, a professional athlete from Oxford, won the Gold medal at the World Championships in 2017 & 2019 for pole vaulting after claiming the Bronze medal at the Summer Olympics in 2016.
