UFC fighter rankings: Dan Ige, Ryan Spann move up

UFC Vegas 21 is in the books, and there isn’t much two write about. Two of the six main card fights, including the main event, went to a No Contest due to dodgy fouls. This means there was no movement at welterweight, where Leon Edwards had a title shot waiting for him if he impressed. He does not now.

UFC Vegas 21’s Ryan Spann motivated by ‘backlash’ suffered in Johnny Walker knockout loss

After a flurry of fists brought a victorious ending for Ryan Spann at UFC Vegas 21, tears flowed. That was the opposite emotion he initially expected. So angered was Spann by a flood of social media haters after his previous performance, a knockout loss to Johnny Walker this past September, that he thought his post-fight celebration would instead be an explosion. His Fortis MMA teammate Uriah Hall had to give him “a little pep talk” to calm him down.

Ryan Spann Reflects On Vengeful UFC Vegas 21 Win Against Cirkunov

After Ryan Spann demolished fellow light heavyweight Misha Cirkunov in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 21, he implied that a hint of revenge was in the air. Following a devastating first-round knockout to the rising star Johnny Walker at UFC Vegas 11, Spann understood adjustments were necessary and especially sought revenge against Walker and his cornermen Cirkunov. Now it would seem Ryan Spann did just that. Clearly, after the first-round knockout of Cirkunov, the 29-year old fighter made vast improvements in his standup game. In addition, the American proved to be far more comfortable in the pocket than before and effectively moved his head off the center line to avoid the heavy shots from the European.

UFC Vegas 21 video: Watch Ryan Spann take out Misha Cirkunov in the first round

The UFC Vegas 21 co-main event delivered big time with the company’s #13 ranked 205-pounder, Ryan Spann, dropping the #11 ranked, Misha Cirkunov, twice and finishing him off with ground strikes in the first round. It was a mean orthodox right cross that first sat down Misha, and then a southpaw left hand the second time. The ground and pound was just about academic as Cirkunov was clearly hurt. What a win for Spann over a longtime UFC veteran.
