TxDOT closes a portion of FM 39

Farm-to-Market Road 39, just north of County Road 854 near Groesbeck is closed due to road damage, according to a TxDOT press release. TxDOT performed a full road closure on FM 39 in Limestone County on Nov. 26. A detour is in place and will direct motorists to utilize State Highway 164 and FM 80. The closure and repairs will be in place indefinitely to ensure the traveling public’s safety. An update will be sent once the roadway reopens. TxDOT encourages motorists to slow down, eliminate distractions and pay attention in work and school zones. The portion of FM 39 that was damaged does not include the nearby bridge or approaches, according to Jake Smith, a TxDOT spokesperson. “There was some longitudinal cracking along the edge of the roadway that washed out due to the rainfall in the area. From the beginning of the washout, TxDOT has been actively working to repair FM 39 every day to ensure it is safe for travel once reopened,” Smith said. TxDOT will provide an update on a possible reopening date when available.

In the 1960s, my parents made up a medium-sized box full of grocery items for my great-grandmother. They included single-serving canned vegetables, canned ham, tuna fish and spam. Since she was on a fixed income, this was sincerely appreciated. In the 1990s, my husband and I did the same thing for his mother. Today, there are so many more choices for products to go into a “care” box like this for an elderly adult family member...
