Roman Quinn (left Achilles) out for season

Somehow, some way, Roman Quinn still scored. Quinn suffered a season-ending left Achilles injury trying to score in the fifth inning of Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Rays at Tropicana Field. He collapsed to the turf after he rounded third, but he got up and hopped the final few feet to home on his right leg. Quinn collapsed again, and minutes later, Phillies manager Joe Girardi and assistant athletic trainer Shawn Fcasni carried him off the field.

The severity of the injury is not yet clear, but it's easy to fear the worst given Quinn's long injury history. Matt Joyce replaced him Saturday and could see more playing time going forward with Bryce Harper (forearm) also out.

Phillies' Roman Quinn: Carried off field

Quinn had to be carried off the field with an apparent left leg injury Saturday against the Rays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Quinn fell while rounding third base, and while he was able to score a game-tying run, the issue seems like a potentially worrisome one. The Phillies have yet to announce his specific diagnosis or give a return timeline, but given the outfielder's inability to walk off under his own power and his extensive injury history, there's a chance he misses an extended period.

Phillies' Roman Quinn: Comes off IL

The Phillies reinstated Quinn from the COVID-19 injured list Sunday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Quinn was on the IL for just one day, which suggests that he was sidelined due to the side effects of a vaccine shot or due to contact tracing rather than because of a positive COVID-19 test. He'll assume the 26-man active roster spot of outfielder Mickey Moniak, who was optioned to the Phillies' alternate training site in a corresponding move.

Phillies' Roman Quinn: Swipes bag, caught once in loss

Quinn went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Cardinals. He was also caught stealing. Quinn got the start in right field in place of Bryce Harper (face). It was Quinn's first start since April 24. Considering that he's batting .083 with a .344 OPS and is only 4-for-7 on the basepaths, the Phillies will likely continue to limit Quinn's exposure even with Mickey Moniak having been optioned.

Phillies' Roman Quinn: Losing work to Moniak

Quinn is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants. Quinn will take a seat for the third straight game against a right-handed starting pitcher, which seemingly signals that he's viewed as a short-side platoon partner in center field for Mickey Moniak. Neither Quinn (.284 OPS) nor Moniak (.143 OPS) have provided much from an offensive standpoint since Adam Haseley (personal) was placed on the restricted list, so it may not be long before the Phillies abandon the platoon and call up Odubel Herrera from the alternate site to handle center-field duties.
