Rumour: AS Monaco interested in signing Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Bürki

AS Monaco are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Bürki, who is free to leave the club this summer. Roman Bürki fell out of favour at Borussia Dortmund earlier this season and lost his place in the team to compatriot Marwin Hitz. The Black and Yellows are now on the verge of signing VfB Stuttgart goalkeeper Gregor Kobel for a fee of 15 million euros. The 23 year old has already signed a long-term contract, and will be Dortmund’s first choice goalkeeper next season.

Is it Time for Borussia Dortmund to Part Ways with Roman Burki?

Last week I analyzed Roman Burki’s performances in the last four seasons (here and here), and compared Borussia Dortmund’s #1 with other goalkeepers in the big five leagues. In this article I will evaluate his performances so far this season. I will compare his performances with previous seasons, again with goalkeepers across the big five leagues.

Roman Burki Out For Two Weeks With Shoulder Injury

Borussia Dortmund announced today that starting goalkeeper Roman Burki will miss 10-14 days with a shoulder injury. He reportedly sustained the injury during training last week, which was subsequently confirmed by an MRI conducted Monday. Fellow Swiss goalkeeper Marvin Hitz is a more than capable backup, and will be set for his second run of games this season. Thankfully, Burki isn’t projected to miss any matches against major opponents. Hitz is likely to get the starts against Paderborn, Freiburg and possibly Hoffenheim. Burki, who often saves his best for the Champions League, is expected to return for the opening match against Sevilla on February 17th.

Roman Bürki: Borussia Dortmund are making good progress under Edin Terzic

Roman Bürki has praised the work Edin Terzic has done since taking over as Borussia Dortmund head coach last month. Edin Terzic was appointed head coach until the end of the season after Borussia Dortmund decided to part ways with Lucien Favre last month. The 38 year old has made an impressive start, winning four of his first five games in charge at the club. And goalkeeper Roman Bürki believes that the Black and Yellows have made impressive progress in recent weeks, saying that every player now has a clear role on the pitch.
