DELHI – The Norwich Purple Tornado boys varsity basketball team hit the road on Saturday February 27th when they took on the undefeated Delaware Academy Bulldogs. The Bulldogs led by their 1,000 point scorer in Alex Haight held on against the Tornado’s second-half offensive attack winning 56-50. Delhi stormed out of the gates right from the tip, scoring 37 first half points all the while, tormenting the Tornado offense. The Bulldog’s formerly mentioned Haight scored 18 points in the first half, with teammate Logan Aikens pitching in seven points, making the duo responsible for the majority of Delhi’s offensive attack.

CONKLIN – The Norwich varsity wrestling team hit the road on Saturday February 27th traveling to take on Susquehanna Valley and Oxford-Greene in a weekend dual meet. Norwich’s Andrew Brown won both of his matches in the 126 weight class, dispatching Oxford-Greene’s Aiden Marcin in a 9-5 decision, and defeating O-G’s Christian Bowers by pin in 3:25.

NORWICH – The Purple Tornado girls varsity basketball team were back to their winning ways on Saturday February 27th when they defeated the Delaware Academy (Delhi) Bulldogs on Senior Night 73-42. Norwich honored seniors Sydney Coggins, Abby Hansen and Jordan Hess for their accomplishments and dedication to the Norwich girls basketball program during pre-game festivities. However, once the game began the Purple Tornado was all business.

SHERBURNE- Greene’s Nate Parker proved to be an unstoppable dynamo for the visiting Trojans, scoring 43 points and willing his team to a Mid-State Athletic Conference victory over the host Sherburne-Earlville Marauders in an overtime thriller 81-78. In the first 16 minutes of play, the duo of Greene’s Parker and Trent Rapp combined for 27 of their team’s 31 first half points. Parker and Rapp demonstrated great offensive prowess as Sherburne-Earlville took their time to get into their own offensive rhythm. The Marauder’s Brock Weidman scored 16 points in the half- with 12 of those points coming off of three-point baskets as teammate Robert Hill contributed six points to cut into Greene’s lead 31-22 by halftime.

ONEONTA – The Oneonta and Norwich rivalry was alive and well on Tuesday night as the Purple Tornado traveled to take on the Yellowjackets in a boys basketball contest. In the final waning minutes of the game, Oneonta was able to fend off the Norwich offensive onslaught 49-46. With a bevy of classic games between the two historic programs, the events of the evening proved to be no different as Oneonta took a commanding 40-29 lead into the fourth quarter.

Mullen’s Hot Hand Leads Norwich Over Greene On Senior Night Published: February 19th, 2021 By: Robert Jeffrey

NORWICH- On Senior Night, the four Purple Tornado seniors; Eli Craddock, Lex Genute, Andrew Mullen and Carson Thornton put together a gem of a basketball game, providing high-energy from the opening tip, which further highlighted by Norwich senior Andrew Mullen’s 23 points, and seven trifecta’s in the ball game, as NHS would defeat Greene by a final score of 71-44. During the early minutes of the contest, Norwich and Greene traded baskets until Norwich let Mullen take over from beyond the arc. Mullen went on his own 9-2 run, advancing the Norwich lead to 15-5 at the 4:25 mark of the first period of play igniting the Norwich offense- leading the Tornado to a 16-5 lead by the end of the first eight minutes of play.

NORWICH - On Wednesday, February 17, senior Purple Tornado wrestler Tyler Rice finally made his long-awaited college commitment by signing his National Letter of Intent to join the Reinhardt University Eagles, in Waleska, Georgia in the fall of 2021. The Eagles are an National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) school and a member of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).

NORWICH - The Norwich varsity boys basketball team returned to their home court of Jack Jones Gymnasium to tip-off their long awaited 2020-2021 basketball season. In their Tuesday night season opener against the Blue Devils of Chenango Forks, the Purple Tornado would fall 67-40. The Purple Tornado ran into early trouble against a more seasoned Chenango Forks team, as NHS fell to an early 15-7 deficit coming out of the first quarter of play.
