Part 2: GE looks back at the 1986 Coaching transition from Rick Majerus to Bob Dukiet

On Sunday, July 6, 1986, Marquette hired Bob Dukiet, former head coach of St. Peter's. It was very late to hire a head coach but there just weren't too many candidates. However, Athletic Director Raymonds said he had known Dukiet for about 4 years and was impressed. " Herbie Brown, Jud Heathcote and Billy Packer all had good things to say about him", said Hank. " I hope Ric stays on as an asst. I did when I didn't get the job when Al did". At the hiring press conference, a piano was rolled in and Dukiet played "Ring Out Ahoya", much to the delight of the MU officials and boosters in attendance. "I didn't know anything about this", said Bob. "Hank said I should do it. I'm not that good. I'm just a honky-tonk piano player but luckily it was an easy piece to play".
