In an interview from Star Wars Celebration that was recently released, The Mandalorian star and director Carl Weathers confirmed that Rick Famuyiwa, who has directed three episodes from the first two seasons, directed at least two episodes of the new season. During Celebration, Lucasfilm confirmed that Famuyiwa would be back as a director for season 3, and has also taken on a new role as executive producer.

THE MANDALORIAN Director Rick Famuyiwa Taking on the Role of Executive Producer in Season 3

Rick Famuyiwa (The Wood, Dope) has been working on the Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian since Season 1 back in 2019. He directed the second episode, "The Child," which ushered fan-favorite character Grogu into the audience’s hearts and homes. He also directed sixth episode of the first season, titled "The Prisoner," with Christopher Yost. He returned for the second season, in which he helmed the heavy-hitting, acclaimed penultimate episode, "The Believer," which saw Mando infiltrating an Imperial base and being forced to take off his helmet and reveal his face (which was previously only shown once before in the Season 1 finale).

The Hollywood Reporter (via SFFGazette.com) has confirmed that Jurassic World Dominion star Bryce Dallas Howard directed at least one episode of The Mandalorian season 3. This marks the actor and filmmaker's fourth trip to a Galaxy Far, Far Away after previously helming standout The Mandalorian episodes "Sanctuary" and "The Heiress." She also directed The Book of Boba Fett's Din Djarin-focused "Return of The Mandalorian" (widely considered the best chapter of that spinoff).

Star Wars Celebration has finally returned for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic began and it was jam-packed with goodies. During the first day of the event, Lucasfilm showcased some of their upcoming projects that feature the likes of Willow, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, Indiana Jones 5 and even the third season of The Mandalorian. The studio released trailers for Andor and Willow online but opted to keep what they showed from The Mandalorian for those who attended the event. One of the major announcements to come from Star Wars Celebration was that Rick Famuyiwa was returning to the series as an Executive Producer. Famuyiwa has previously directed a few episodes of the series, and he has nothing but nice things to say about the franchise and series creator Jon Farveau.

Famuyiwa will direct the pilot and executive produce with Hillian, who will pen the script.
