Prizefighter review – Russell Crowe and Ray Winstone in the ring for period punch-up

There’s an interesting story to be told about Jem Belcher, the Bristol bare-knuckle prizefighter and Champion of All England in the early years of the 19th century who became a working-class hero and pop-culture icon mentioned by Dickens and Conan Doyle. This biopic is clearly a labour of love for its writer-producer-star Matt Hookings, himself the son of a boxing champion, David Pearce, the “Welsh Rocky”.

'Prizefighter' Trailer Presents Russell Crowe and Ray Winstone in the Greatest Boxing Story Never Told

Signature Entertainment has released the official trailer for their upcoming sports drama film Prizefighter, based on a true story and set for a streaming release on Prime Video later this summer. Starring Russell Crowe, the trailer opens on a young boy prone to getting into fights, as his grandfather (played by Crowe) is a fighter, who claims that the boy will follow in his footsteps.

New Netflix fantasy movie adds Robin Wright, Ray Winstone, and more

Robin Wright and Ray Winstone have joined the cast of Netflix's Damsel, a new fantasy movie fronted by Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown. The Wonder Woman actor – whose work on the streaming service's original series House of Cards earned her eight Emmy nominations – and the Sexy Beast star are not the movie's only new additions, either. According to Deadline, Brooke Carter (The Irregulars), Nick Robinson (Love, Simon), and Oscar-nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Expanse) have also signed on to the film, and will be seen sharing the screen with Brown and Black Panther's Angela Bassett.

In her latest project, the fantasy fairy tale Damsel, Brown will play Princess Elodie, a woman who thinks she is marrying a prince, only to find out that his family plans to sacrifice her to a dragon. Thrown into a pit with the fire-breather, she realizes she has to outwit the creature in order to survive.

Netflix's fantasy film Damsel is rounding out its ensemble cast. On Tuesday, it was announced that Robin Wright (Wonder Woman), Ray Winstone (Black Widow), Nick Robinson (Maid), Brooke Carter (The Irregulars), and Shohreh Aghdashloo (X-Men: The Last Stand) have all joined the cast of the upcoming film.
