Ray Ferraro

Awful Announcing

Ray Ferraro talks about skipping the Beijing Olympics: “I might have thought differently if it was in almost any place else.”

We don’t yet know who will be calling Olympic men’s and women’s hockey games for NBC at the Beijing Games in February 2022, or covering the tournaments there for SportsCenter and other ESPN properties, but one possible candidate won’t be attending those Olympics at all. That would be ESPN’s Ray Ferraro. Ferraro discussed that decision this week with Julie Stewart-Binks on her Drinks with Binks fubo Sports Network show, with that conversation set to air in full on fubo Sports Network Saturday at 10:30 p.m. ET. However, as per a report from Andrew Marchand of The New York Post Monday, while Ferraro will be heading to ESPN (and so will NBC’s Brian Boucher), Gretzky will not be, choosing instead to only consider an offer from Turner. Here’s more from that piece:

With the NHL’s national U.S. rights heading to ESPN and Turner next year, there’s been a lot of discussion about who will have on-air roles for those networks. Turner made a couple of additions on that front Wednesday, reportedly tapping Kenny Albert and Eddie Olzcyk (both currently working on NBC’s NHL coverage, plus SiriusXM in Albert’s case) as their lead broadcast team.
