Did Philipp Kurashev regress in 2021-22?

I’m going to admit something up top: I was wrong in the pre-pandemic world on a few things, but probably nothing as much as I was on Alex DeBrincat. During his sophomore slump — largely influenced by an abysmal shooting percentage — I thought DeBrincat was done, toasted, caput.

Philipp Kurashev Bringing Much-Needed Boost to Blackhawks’ Depth

The Chicago Blackhawks have been on a pretty good run as of late. They have won four of their last five games and are looking to continue their upward trend. When teams are winning, it’s easy to point out the stars: the Patrick Kanes, the Alex DeBrincats, and the Marc-Andre Fleurys, but the Blackhawks’ wins have also come in part due to their depth stepping up to the plate. One of the players that have been a standout is Philipp Kurashev.

Blackhawks' Philipp Kurashev: Nets winning tally in overtime

Kurashev scored a goal on three shots and added three hits in Thursday's 3-2 overtime win over the Canadiens. Kurashev's goal at 2:24 of overtime was reviewed twice -- once to determine if the puck went in before the net was dislodged, and a second time to verify the play was onside. It was a close call, but the goal stood as his third of the season. The Swiss winger has looked solid with two goals and two assists through seven games in January. He's up to 11 points, 50 shots and a minus-5 rating in 31 contests overall.
