5 Frames… Of surreal colour with Lomography Lomochrome Purple XR 100-400 (35mm Format / EI 160 / Nikon F5 + Nikkor 50mm 1.4 G Af-S) – by Phil Bateman

When I first bought a 5 pack of Lomography’s Lomochrome Purple XR 100-400 I wondered if the novelty might wear off after a roll or two and I fully expected to resell the rest. After a couple of rolls though, I realised there was something more to it than novelty and I couldn’t get enough. If you are shooting a false colour film whose primary effect is the conversion of green to pink/purple, it makes sense to play to its strengths and look for subjects that are mainly green. Luckily I live in the midst of the beautiful forests of Canada’s British Columbia so green is not a problem!

Phil Bateman

A loving father and grandfather, passed away January 19, 2021 at the age of 77 from complications of Covid-19. He was retired after working as a construction supervisor for Thomas Construction for many years. Phil also was a truck driver earlier in life for Bateman Diesel and worked at Burris Mill. He was surely a “Jack of all trades” and he had served his community and country in the Louisiana Army National Guard. He enjoyed playing golf and loved deer hunting, dove hunting and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he was able. Phil enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren and family, who loved him for his mischievous sense of humor and big heart.
