Paula Radcliffe: 'I was beckoned over by Muhammed Ali in Chicago after I'd broken the world record'

Sarah Jessica Parker picked a bag for me in Monaco. It was after my son Raphael was born, and my husband Gary wanted to get me a bag, so we went into Louis Vuitton. I heard this voice saying: “Oh my God, what a cute baby!” I looked round, and there’s Sarah Jessica Parker talking about my baby! Gary, in probably the most embarrassing moment of his life, blurted out: “My sister loves you!” Then SJP said to me: “Wait a minute, I know who you are! I live on the edge of Central Park and my husband [Matthew Broderick] loves the marathon, so we’re out there every year, cheering it on!” For me, that was rock ’n’ roll – especially because Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is Gary’s favourite movie, and it’s now the kids’ favourite too. When I told SJP I was choosing a bag, she was like: “Have that one!” I bought it, and I still use it so much now.
