Islanders' Oliver Wahlstrom: Scoreless in last 12 games

Wahlstrom ended the season without scoring a point in his last 12 games. Wahlstrom also only had one goal in his last 17 games. It'll be interesting to see how the team's new coach impacts the production of players like Wahlstrom next season.

Islanders’ Oliver Wahlstrom appreciative of Barry Trotz’s ‘tough love’

If Oliver Wahlstrom was upset with his treatment at the hands of Barry Trotz, he did a good job of hiding it.  After a rough second half of the season, in which Wahlstrom’s minutes were often held below 10, he was made a healthy scratch twice in the season’s final weeks and he badly struggled, scoring just three goals after the All-Star break, the 21-year-old forward cast an upbeat demeanor in his last time speaking with reporters this season on Saturday morning.  “It was good,” he said of his relationship with Trotz. “I need tough love sometimes. It’s part of the game;...

Islanders' Oliver Wahlstrom: Scoreless in nine straight

Wahlstrom has gone nine straight games without registering a point for the Islanders. Wahlstrom has only one goal in his last 14 games. The season has been a disappointment for the young sniper, as he has only 13 goals and 24 points in 70 games. Wahlstrom has also been a frequent target for the wrath of coach Barry Trotz and has been a healthy scratch several times this season. Wahlstrom likely isn't in danger of being scratched Tuesday as the Isles are down a couple of wingers due to COVID-19 protocol, but the team will want to see more consistent play from Wahlstrom to guarantee a full-time spot for him next season.

Islanders’ Barry Trotz losing trust in struggling Oliver Wahlstrom

Barry Trotz’s trust in Oliver Wahlstrom comes down to what the Islanders wing has done lately on the ice. But after a poor outing Saturday against the Blues, in which Wahlstrom played 10:31, took a penalty, was minus-3 and made a few bad reads, the coach’s trust in Wahlstrom is not too high. And after two periods and 8:27 of ice time on Tuesday, it was at zero.

Islanders' Oliver Wahlstrom: Benched

Wahlstrom will be a healthy scratch when the Islanders take on the Penguins on Thursday, Neil Best of Newsday reports. Wahlstrom has once again upset coach Barry Trotz. The coach stated that his issues with Wahlstrom are more about his mental rather than his physical game. It's also common knowledge that Wahlstrom would've been benched before the game Tuesday versus the Penguins if not for the illness that befell Kiefer Bellows. This won't be the first time Trotz has benched Wahlstrom this season, but hopefully, it will be the last.

Reaction: P.K Subban jumps Islanders Oliver Wahlstrom after hit on Jack Hughes

The New York Islanders continued to play well yesterday, beating the New Jersey Devils 4-3 in a Sunday afternoon matinee. The Capitals lost, and that puts the Islanders just 11 points out with 14 games remaining. We are all still hoping for a miracle, but it's time to look at the incident between Oliver Wahlstrom and P.K Subban.

Islanders' Oliver Wahlstrom: One goal in last 12 games

Wahlstrom has only lit the lamp once in his last 12 games. Of course, this is a concern for the Islanders, as Wahlstrom is considered the team's best young goal scorer. It's also concerning that this drought has hit Wahlstrom since he's been placed on a line with Mathew Barzal, who himself has wrinkled the twine in 15 games entering their contest versus the Blue Jackets on Thursday. Coach Barry Trotz has placed both of these players on the third line and seems hesitant to break up his top two units, so this duo may have to figure out how to work with each other in order to be successful.

Do Islanders need mentor for Oliver Wahlstrom?

One of the lasting images from the New York Islanders win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday was Zdeno Chara litterally having his arm around Noah Dobson. The veteran and future Hall of Fame defenseman was seen right in the middle of a coaching moment with the young Dobson.

Islanders' Oliver Wahlstrom: Lights the lamp

Wahlstrom wrinkled the twine as the Islanders defeated the Red Wings 6-1 on Thursday. The goal was the 12th of the season for Wahlstrom to go along with 10 assists in 56 games. The Islanders will expect more from Wahlstrom next season as coach Barry Trotz has constantly been tutoring him before, during, and after practice. Wahlstrom sometimes feels the wrath of Trotz when his defensive play is lacking, but the future is still bright for the young sniper, and the Isles will hope they have a future 25+ goal scorer on their hands.

Mathew Barzal skates with Oliver Wahlstrom on third line

Circumstances conspired to have coach Barry Trotz finally start Mathew Barzal and Oliver Wahlstrom on a line together for the first time this season in the Islanders’ 4-3 win over the Ducks on Sunday night at UBS Arena. Barzal, in his second game back after missing six with a...

Islanders' Oliver Wahlstrom: Expected to play Sunday

Wahlstrom is expected to play Sunday against the Ducks, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. Wahlstrom was a healthy scratch Friday against the Jets but is likely to play instead of Kieffer Bellows against the Ducks. Wahlstrom may be the best shooter the Islanders have, but he's also drawn the ire of coach Barry Trotz several times this season for poor defensive play, and Trotz has benched him to send a message. He's expected to play on a line with Mathew Barzal and Zach Parise.
