Blues' Niko Mikkola: Collects first postseason helper

Mikkola notched an assist and a team-high four blocked shots in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Avalanche in Game 2. Mikkola's first postseason point came on a Mike Hoffman tally in the third period. The 25-year-old Mikkola could be in line for more responsibility if Robert Bortuzzo and/or Justin Faulk are forced to miss time after leaving Wednesday's game with upper-body injuries. In 30 regular-season outings, Mikkola had three points, 49 hits, 36 blocked shots and a minus-11 rating.

Blues' Niko Mikkola: Back in lineup

Mikkola (upper body) is set to play in Wednesday's game versus the Wild, Lou Korac of reports. Mikkola was held out of Monday's game versus the Kings with the injury, but he's recovered enough to get back in the lineup. The 25-year-old Finn is expected to skate on the third pairing Wednesday.

Blues' Niko Mikkola: Dealing with upper-body injury

Mikkola (upper body) did not play Monday versus the Kings, Lou Korac of reports. The severity of Mikkola's injury is unknown at this time. He drew 15:01 of ice time Saturday in Vegas and didn't suffer any obvious injury in that contest, but he was not in the lineup Monday. The Finn has just two points in 28 appearances this season, but his defensive presence has kept him in the lineup often lately.

Blues' Niko Mikkola: Pockets milestone goal

Mikkola scored a goal on his only shot in Monday's 3-2 overtime loss to San Jose. The 24-year-old rookie opened the scoring just over four minutes into the game, sending a quick shot from the point through heavy traffic for his first NHL goal. Mikkola logged a team-low 10:13 of ice time and the goal was his first point in 16 games this season.

Mikkola was promoted from the taxi squad Monday, CBS Sports reports. Mikkola will serve as the extra man Monday and hasn't appeared in a game since Feb. 8. The 24-year-old blueliner hasn't scored a point through nine games this season.

Blues' Niko Mikkola: Back to taxi squad

Mikkola was demoted to the taxi squad Friday, CBS Sports reports. Mikkola has suited up for nine games with the Blues this season but hasn't been in the lineup since Feb. 8. Blues' Niko Mikkola: Heads to taxi squad

Mikkola was designated for the taxi squad Saturday, Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Mikkola was a healthy scratch Friday after playing eight straight games and averaging 13:02 per contest. He'll continue to practice and travel with the team. Robert Bortuzzo's addition to the active roster means Mikkola's playing time could be sparce moving forward.

Blues' Niko Mikkola: Snags first assist

Mikkola notched an assist, four blocked shots, two shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Ducks. Mikkola was reliable defensively and managed to get on the scoresheet for the first time this year with his assist on Colton Parayko's goal. The 24-year-old Mikkola is more of a defensive presence than a scorer -- he has nine blocks, four hits and a plus-1 rating through five appearances this year. He's safe to avoid from a fantasy perspective, as he sees only a limited role on the third pairing.

Blues' Niko Mikkola: Moves to active roster

Mikkola was recalled from the taxi squad Sunday, Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic reports. The Blues placed Robert Bortuzzo (upper body) on injured reserve Sunday, and Mikkola was called up to add depth on the blue line. At 6-foot-5, 185 pounds, Mikkola is a strong stay-at-home defenseman that will add physicality during Bortuzzo's absence. Carl Gunnarsson may end up slotting into the third pairing instead of Mikkola, though.

Blues' Niko Mikkola: Shifts to taxi squad

Mikkola was assigned to AHL Utica on Tuesday, Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic reports. Mikkola failed to make the NHL roster, but he was handed an impossible task with St. Louis' crowded blue line. The 24-year-old will add depth on the Blues' taxi squad moving forward. The 6-foot-4 blueliner is a sturdy defender that can play up and down the lineup if necessary.
