Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Sitting Wednesday

Ahmed is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers. Josh Rojas will fill in at shortstop for Ahmed, who appears to be receiving a routine breather for the day game after a night game. Ahmed had started in each of the Diamondbacks' previous six games, going 3-for-19 with a pair of runs.

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Delivers two hits in win

Ahmed went 2-for-4 with a run scored Monday in the Diamondbacks' 5-1 win over the Brewers. Ahmed's two-hit night put an end to a 4-for-44 skid over his previous 13 games. Though he's valued mostly for his excellent defense at shortstop, Ahmed has still been a major disappointment this season from an offensive standpoint. After delivering an OPS over .700 in each of the past four seasons, Ahmed is currently sitting on a .565 mark through 222 plate appearances in 2021.

Ahmed went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Friday's 5-1 loss to Milwaukee. Ahmed's eighth-inning single broke up Freddy Peralta's no-hit bid and was Arizona's lone hit. He extended a modest hit streak to five games (9-for-19, .474) and stole his third bag of the season.

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Triples in win

Ahmed went 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 9-2 win over the Cardinals. Ahmed has been under .200 for much of the season, but the shortstop crossed that threshold after a stretch that includes three multi-hit games among his last six. He's 8-for-22 (.364) with four extra-base hits during that span.

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: On base thrice in loss

Ahmed went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk in Thursday's 8-0 loss to the Giants. Ahmed did his part on the evening, reaching base in each of his first three plate appearances, but the rest of Arizona's offense didn't show up. The veteran has a reputation as a defense-first shortstop, but he may need to perform better than his current .198/.298/.294 slash line to keep his role on a Diamondbacks team looking toward the future.

Diamondbacks Shortstop Nick Ahmed Looks To Put Lingering Knee Injury Behind Him

PHOENIX – The 2021 season hasn’t gone nearly the way Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed would have wanted. Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Works on swing

Ahmed used Friday's day off from the starting lineup to work on his swing mechanics, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. Ahmed focused on his lower half, which he believes led to a chain reaction of issues throughout the rest of the swing. He also acknowledged the knee injury that dogged him throughout spring training and landed him on the injured list to start the season played more of a role than he was willing to admit. "I've developed compensations," he said, "that I couldn't necessarily feel and have to go about undoing those compensations now and get back to being the type of hitter I know I can be." The shortstop entered Friday's game as a pinch hitter for his replacement, Josh Rojas, and grounded out. That dropped Ahmed's average to .073.

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Won't lose starts amid slump

Ahmed went 0-for-4 in Thursday's 14-11 win over the Reds. Ahmed, who was pulled for a pinch hitter for the second straight game, saw his batting average drop to .075 (3-for-40), but manager Torey Lovullo plans to stick with him as a starter, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. "The swing is a little disconnected," Lovullo said. "It's not synced up. I just think it has more to do with direction. He sees the ball. He's confident. I just feel like mechanically there is a little flaw in there that is preventing him from squaring the baseball up on a consistent basis." With Josh Rojas' batting heating up over the last four contests (4-for-10, three walks, one HR), there's a chance Lovullo gives Ahmed a one-day break at some point. The manager added that he does not believe the knee that forced Ahmed to miss the first two weeks of the season is an issue.

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Sluggish start

Ahmed went 0-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base, an RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's 11-6 win over the Nationals. Ahmed knocked in a run on a fielder's choice, his second RBI of the season, and scored his first runs of the season. The stolen base was his first, but speed has not been a big element to his game. His eight thefts over 158 games in 2019 stand as his career benchmark. After starting the year on the injured list due to a knee injury, the shortstop hasn't done much since rejoining the Diamondbacks. Ahmed is 2-for-19 out of the gate.

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Day off Friday

Ahmed will hit the bench Friday against the Nationals. Ahmed started five straight games after returning from a knee injury Saturday. He went hitless in four of them and owns a .295 OPS through his first 21 plate appearances of the year, so it's no surprise to see him get a bit of a break. Josh Rojas will start at shortstop in his absence.
