Michael Edward Duggan (born July 15, 1958) is an American businessman and politician from the Democratic Party, currently serving as the 75th mayor of Detroit, Michigan. When first elected in 2013 he received national attention, in part for being the first white mayor of the majority-black city since Roman Gribbs in the early 1970s, when Detroit's population still had a white majority. Duggan won a second term in the 2017 election. Prior to becoming mayor he held a number of other political offices, including from 1987 to 2001 as deputy County Executive of Wayne County in which Detroit is located. He has received an approval rating of over 68%, the highest rating of any mayor of Detroit.

Mike Duggan seeks to fight poverty, boost neighborhoods and safety with $400M rescue funds

Mayor Mike Duggan will focus on five areas across Detroit to invest $400 million of the COVID-19 pandemic-related federal funding. Detroit expects toreceive $826 million in federal funding to address various challenges throughout the city and Duggan is inviting the public to provide feedback on areas needing investments. The first $413 million will be available by early June, while the second half will come next year, said Deputy Mayor Conrad Mallett.

Mayor Mike Duggan on Monday announced his selection of an interim police chief to replace chief James Craig after his retirement on June 1. The interim chief, James White, had been assistant chief of Detroit police since 2013 before becoming new executive director of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights last summer.
