2022 Rangers Report Card: Mika Zibanejad proves he’s a 1C

The Rangers went into the season with a bit of a question mark at 1C, not that Mika Zibanejad was bad or wasn’t cemented at 1C, but the struggles in the shortened 2021 season were fresh in everyone’s mind, as Zibanejad was simply not himself for most of the season. He put most of that to rest this season with 81 points in 81 games played, setting career highs in points and assists (52), like Artemiy Panarin.

Rangers’ Mika Zibanejad shut down by Lightning’s checking line

TAMPA, Fla. — After it had all ended, Mika Zibanejad sat at a podium alongside Chris Kreider, holding back tears. “It’s just denial,” he said. “I’m empty right now. I don’t know what to say.” A day before the unceremonious and season-ending 2-1 loss to the Lightning, Zibanejad had cast an upbeat tone, describing the challenge of facing Anthony Cirelli’s line as fun. But that could not have been further from his experience on Saturday night, when he capped an underwhelming conference final with another game in which his line was effectively erased by Cirelli, Alex Killorn and Brandon Hagel. Zibanejad, who at...

Rangers’ Mika Zibanejad bottled up by Lightning checking line

TAMPA, Fla. — Gerard Gallant generally comes off in his press conferences as a pretty jovial guy, usually with a smile on his face. But the smile on the face of the Rangers’ coach was wiped away Tuesday night in the aftermath of his team’s dreadful 4-1 loss to the Lightning in Game 4 of the conference final at Amalie Arena. Gallant was asked what he might say to Mika Zibanejad to get better production in this series after the Rangers’ winger with the sniper shot was essentially held in check for the second consecutive game by Tampa’s line centered by Anthony...

New York Rangers Red Hot Power Play Led By Mika Zibanejad

The New York Rangers lead their best of seven series with the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 after a 3-2 loss in Game 3. However, despite the loss, the power play for the Rangers continues to click. There are no signs of it slowing down either. A big reason for the power-play success of the Rangers in the playoffs has been the play of Mika Zibanejad. His presence on the power play gives the Rangers many different looks. If the Rangers continue on in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, their power play will need to remain red-hot.

Mika Zibanejad has been the New York Rangers best player in the playoffs

The New York Rangers are a team and they would not be where they are today without the contributions of every single player on the roster. Of course, at postseason’s end the Conn Smythe Trophy is awarded to the MVP of the playoffs and each team probably has at least one or two candidates. In the case of the Blueshirts the argument can be made that three players are worthy of consideration.

Mika Zibanejad has become center of attention for Rangers

You wondered whether Mika Zibanejad could be a true superstar center, and through five playoff games, he was giving you an answer. The Rangers were on the brink of elimination, heading back to Pittsburgh down 3-2, and Zibanejad had yet to score in the series. His line — the Rangers’ top line — was being handcuffed by Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel. He was minus-4 in Games 3, 4 and 5. Nothing about it was flattering. But you already know how this story ends. Here are Zibanejad’s numbers from Game 6 against the Penguins onward: 10 games, eight goals, nine assists. Entering Friday’s...
