Issa Rae, Michael Cera to join Margot Robbie in 'Barbie' movie

April 14 (UPI) -- Issa Rae and Michael Cera are joining the cast of director Greta Gerwig's upcoming Barbie film starring Margot Robbie. People, Entertainment Tonight and Yahoo News reported Thursday that Rae and Cera are the latest stars to join the movie, which is based on the iconic doll franchise. In addition, Hari Nef is reportedly set to join the cast.

Issa Rae, Michael Cera, and Hari Nef have all joined the cast of Greta Gerwig's Barbie, which stars Margot Robbie in the titular role. The news comes just after Will Ferrell and Emma Mackey were added to the cast in undisclosed roles – though Ferrell is rumored to be playing the CEO of a toy company which may or may not be Mattel. Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, and America Ferrera also star, with Rylan Gosling taking on the role of Barbie's famous beau Ken.

Gerwig co-wrote the film with husband/filmmaker Noah Baumbach (“Marriage Story“) and there are certainly signs that the family-friendly picture is going to skew more humorous than we might have originally expected given the film’s exciting cast.
