As one door opens, another door closes. That phrase felt particularly applicable yesterday in Clipper land. In this scenario, the opening came for Terance Mann, signing a two-year, $22 million extension to remain at STAPLES Center until 2025. When the end of that deal rolls around he’ll be 28 years old, so the Clippers could have, in theory, just secured their guy for his peak years — and if his recent progress is anything to go by, that could be a hugely exciting few years for both parties.

The Cavaliers trimmed their roster by waiving center Mfiondu Kabengele and guard Brodric Thomas, the team announced in a press release. Kabengele signed a pair of 10-day deals with Cleveland in April before inking a contract for the remainder of the season. He appeared in 16 games, averaging 4.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per night. He also played 23 games for the Clippers last season.

The 24-year-old appeared in 39 contests at the NBA level during the 2020-21 campaign, but he will likely join a G League team for the start of this season.

We didn’t see a ton of extended playing time for Mfiondu Kabengele with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kabengele was first signed to a 10-day deal, then given a second 10-day deal. Then following that, he was ultimately signed to a multi-year contract, essentially for the league minimum, with the two years following this past season non-guaranteed from there.

Mfiondu Kabengele was recently signed to a multi-year deal by the Cleveland Cavaliers, after his two 10-day contracts with the team played out. While I’m still pretty skeptical of his potential fit with the club looking onward, the deal was a next-to-no risk move by Cleveland, who is so banged up right now, and with the next two seasons of the contract non-guaranteed.
