Miranda Maverick reacts after getting booked against Maycee Barber

UFC women’s flyweight prospect Miranda Maverick reacted after her surprise booking against fellow youngster Maycee Barber for this summer. Late Tuesday night, it was revealed that the UFC plans on having Maverick fight Barber on July 24. The 23-year-old Maverick is the No. 15 ranked fighter in the flyweight division, while the 22-year-old Barber is the No. 14 ranked fighter. Based on the rankings, this fight does make sense. But considering the UFC typically doesn’t like to match up prospect vs. prospect, it was a bit of a surprise to see this fight booked. Remember, Barber is coming off of back-to-back losses to Alexa Grasso and Roxanne Modafferi, so suffering a third straight loss here against Maverick could be detrimental for the future of her UFC career.

Alexa Grasso Intensely Motivated After Maycee Barber Victory

After a violent display of striking against Maycee Barber, Alexa Grasso is as motivated as ever to climb up the flyweight ladder. Once hailed the “Ronda Rousey of Mexico” by UFC president Dana White, Grasso went through some growing pains inside the organization. Although, what flyweight wouldn’t if they have fought in the promotion since 2016? During her tenure in the UFC, she did alternate wins and losses, but the losses were to elite competition. After her rear-naked choke loss to blue-chip prospect, Tatiana Suarez, Alexa Grasso knew adjustments were inevitable, but she never moved camps or changed her identity within the promotion.

Maycee Barber: That was a bitter pill

Maycee Barber entered Dana White’s Contender Series with a perfect 4-0 record in the LFA, all but one inside the distance, and again won inside the distance, and got a contract. In an eleven-month span, Barber won three more, with none making it to the third round. The UFC star-making machine revved up, but Roxanne Modafferi shut it down at UFC 246 on January 18, 2020, handing “The Future” a Unanimous Decision loss.
