Maxo Kream – “The Vision” (Feat. Anderson .Paak)

The great Houston rapper Maxo Kream released his Weight Of The World last year, but an album is never done, even if it’s been out for a while. In recent weeks, Maxo has been releasing new singles for a Weight Of The World deluxe edition at a fast clip. He’s already shared “Jigga Dame” and the Benny The Butcher collab “Football Heads,” and now he’s also teamed up with Anderson .Paak for the new song “The Vision.”

Maxo Kream teams up with Anderson .Paak for “THE VISION”

Maxo Kream is quickly rolling out the bonus tracks from Weight of the World (Deluxe) in preparation for its July 27 RCA release. Today, he’s shared “THE VISION,” a single Maxo verse bookended by two Anderson .Paak choruses. It represents the third of six new songs that will appear on the project, following May’s “JIGGA DAME” and last Friday’s “FOOTBALL HEADS.” The latest cut features a solid minute of strong bars from Maxo between .Paak refrains, which neither adds to nor detracts from the song in any significant way.

Maxo Kream And Anderson .Paak See ‘The Vision’ Clearly On Their Head-Bopping New Anthem

Maxo Kream is on a roll, lately — no pun intended. Following up the trunk-knocking “Jigga Dame” and the Benny The Butcher-featuring “Football Heads,” the Houston hard hitter teams up with Silk Sonic singer Anderson .Paak on the head-bopping anthem, “The Vision.” While Maxo recounts some of his favorite sneakers and brags about his high-fashion habits, Paak details the cars, clothes, and women that make him a “legend livin’.”

Maxo Kream – “Football Heads” (Feat. Benny The Butcher)

Last year, the great Houston rapper Maxo Kream released a strong album called Weight Of The World. A couple of months ago, Maxo released a new solo track called “Jigga Dame,” destined for a deluxe version of the LP. Today, Maxo has added another song, and this one is a team up with Buffalo rap monster Benny The Butcher. I’m pretty sure it’s the first time these two have shared a track, and it’s something that needed to happen. On “Football Heads,” Maxo and Benny take turns talking virtuosic street shit over a hard, lurching beat. Listen below.

Maxo Kream And Benny The Butcher Serve The Block In The Head-Bopping ‘Football Heads’ Video

The art of rap is beautiful in itself, but it’s a special treat when rappers can infuse uncommonly used pop culture references in their bars. Maxo Kream does just that in his video for “Football Heads” featuring Benny The Butcher. Maxo executes a drug transaction outside of a store, raps in the middle of a football field, and nods his head while sitting in the stands surrounded by men wearing football helmets. He references Helga from the popular Nickelodeon show Hey Arnold! as well as WWE superstar John Cena.

Powers Pleasant – “Overseas” (Feat. Maxo Kream, Bas, Kenny Mason, & Erick The Architect)

You’ve got to love a good posse cut. The New York producer Powers Pleasant has been a key part of a bunch of them. Powers co-founded Brooklyn’s Pro Era crew with Joey Bada$$ and Capital STEEZ. He’s produced a bunch of tracks for those guys and their extended Beast Coast crew, and he’s also produced for rappers like Denzel Curry and Princess Nokia. Powers’ new song is a supremely fun posse cut that brings in a bunch of rappers from across the country while still maintaining the same anarchic vibe.

$uicideboy$ Announce 2022 Grey Day Tour With JPEGMAFIA, Knocked Loose, Code Orange, Maxo Kream, More

Before seeing them last year, I knew that the scabby New Orleans SoundCloud-rap pioneers $uicideboy$ were a big deal, but I did not realize how big they were until I saw thousands of people rapping along with their drugs-and-depression lyrics word-for-word. My experience at last year’s Grey Day tour was an eye-opening one. $uicideboy$ have truly built and audience for what they do, and their umbrella is big enough to include a few different forms of intense underground music. At the show I saw, the lineup was mostly acts from the group’s G59 label, but Turnstile and Chief Keef were also booked to open. (Turnstile were amazing. Keef no-showed.) This year, $uicideboy$ are heading out on an even bigger version of the Grey Day tour, and its lineup is truly insane.
