The Los Angeles Dodgers haven’t exactly gotten off to their desired start to 2022, but things could also be much worse. LA is still tops in the NL West with a 21-12 record (and that’s after losing three out of four at home to the Phillies), but their offense has been wildly streaky and their pitching staff continues to see guys go down with injuries.
Max Muncy has had a few internet-famous moments during his Dodgers career. First, it was his “go get it out of the ocean” home run into McCovey Cove off of Madison Bumgarner in 2019. Then, last Sunday, the internet exploded after Cubs catcher Willson Contreras grabbed Muncy below the belt as the backstop was scrambling for a pitch off the dirt.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have lost three games in a row for the first time in the 2022 season and they also have dropped four of their last five. Their offense let them down in their first two losses, scoring one and three runs, respectively, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. A video clip involving Max Muncy went viral over the weekend, though we finally know exactly what happened. Muncy was batting in the bottom of the ninth inning on Friday night with his Los Angeles Dodgers down 9-7 to the Philadelphia Phillies. After starting the at-bat with a ball, Familia threw the second pitch right down the middle. Muncy took a called strike and then protested with the umpire afterwards.
Max Muncy kept his response pretty brief when asked about Wilson Contreras awkwardly grabbing him during Sunday Night Baseball.
It’s hard to believe that Max Muncy is playing baseball on a daily basis. When he revealed that he had suffered a torn UCL in his elbow at the end of last season, Dodgers fans immediately assumed they wouldn’t see much of him this year. Muncy tore it on a collision at first base in the final games of the regular season in 2021.
Max Muncy is among the regulars in the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup who are off to a slow start this season, and that was magnified in a key at-bat during Wednesday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Dodgers were trailing 3-0 when the seventh inning began, but loaded the...
