In the ninth round of the USFL supplemental draft, the Pittsburgh Maulers selected the former Ray Guy Award winner with the No. 71 pick overall. (WYMT) - Denver waived Max Duffy on Thursday, per Mike Klis of KUSA. The Broncos signed Duffy late last month as an undrafted free agent out of Kentucky. But as Klis notes, the club already has veteran Sam Martin on the roster, and Denver signed a pair of receivers on Thursday.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos have signed punter Max Duffy, the team announced Monday. The rookie player appeared in 34 games in three years for the Kentucky Wildcats and is the school’s all-time leading punter with a 46-yard career average. Duffy averaged an FBS-best 48.1 yards per punt in 2019 and won the Ray Guy Award as the nation’s best punter.

In addition to the six Wildcats selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, the 28-year-old Duffy now becomes the fourth former UK player to sign as an undrafted free agent, joining running back AJ Rose (Minnesota Vikings), center Drake Jackson (Lions), and edge rusher Boogie Watson (Pittsburgh Steelers).

The Australian-born athlete spent a handful of years in the Australian Football League, but he announced his retirement from that league in 2017 as he pursued a career in American football. He ended up catching on with Kentucky, appearing in 34 games during his collegiate career. Duffy averaged 46 yards on his 151 collegiate punts, and he earned All-SEC honors in both 2019 and 2020. He also received a unanimous first-team All-American nod in 2019.
