Red Sox closer Matt Barnes is in the midst of a career year at the perfect time, with free agency looming just a few months down the road. However, while many free-agents-to-be set an Opening Day deadline for extension talks with their current club, Barnes made clear this week that he’s “absolutely” open to talking about a new contract during the season (link via Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com). Barnes added that while the two sides talked during spring training and even exchanged numbers, the Red Sox haven’t made an offer since.

Red Sox’ Matt Barnes open to in-season contract extension talks: ‘I’m sure that’s something that my agent and I can discuss and see if anything comes of that’
Matt Barnes has long been interested in remaining with the Red Sox past the 2021 season, when he is set to hit free agency for the first time. Originally selected by Boston in the first round of the 2011 amateur draft out of UCONN, Barnes has spent the first 11 years of his professional career and first eight years of his big-league career with the Sox after debuting for them in 2014.
Barnes (2-1) won Sunday's 6-5 victory over the Yankees, pitching the ninth inning and allowing one run on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts. Pitching for the third consecutive day, Barnes entered for the ninth to protect a 4-3 lead and coughed up a Gleyber Torres RBI double to knot the score and send the game to extras. Boston was able to plate two runs in the 10th to award Barnes the win despite the blown save. It's safe to say Barnes won't pitch for a make-up game at home against Miami tomorrow but he should be good to go for a three-game set against Houston starting Tuesday.

Matt Barnes Warns LeBron James And The Lakers: "These Young Teams Are Dangerous Because They Don’t Know That They’re Supposed To Worry About The Lakers"
The Los Angeles Lakers have been far from the team they were last season. They've struggled to stay healthy and that has taken a toll on their chances to win. Needless to say, they'll only go as far as their superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis is able to lead them.

1:28 PM PT -- Kwame is shoving Barnes' offer right back in his face ... saying there's no way in hell he'll ever appear on his podcast -- and he's NOT gonna fight him. "Everybody already seen you ain't want no smoke and now you ready to go to the screen and be a crash dummy, 'S***, if you want we can box and we can do this.' Anything to save that little bitch ass show. N****, shut yo' bitch ass up," Brown said on Instagram minutes ago.
Kwame Brown has been coming after everyone who has ever criticized him and it has led to some pretty spicy Instagram Live sessions. Brown has gone after the likes of Stephen A. Smith and he has also had a ton of smoke for the "All The Smoke" podcast which recently did an episode with Gilbert Arenas. During that episode, Stephen Jackson and Arenas seemingly had some harsh words for Brown who was known to be a complete draft bust.
