Matt Barnes

As Boston Red Sox ponder midseason extensions, Matt Barnes reflects on his; Joey Votto Q&A and more | Chris Cotillo (MLB Notebook)

BOSTON -- Will they or won’t they? That’s the big question surrounding the Red Sox and potential contract extensions with big-name players these days. By now, you know the list of key players who are set to hit free agency in the coming years. Xander Bogaerts, J.D. Martinez, Nate Eovaldi, Kiké Hernández, Christian Vázquez and others will hit free agency this fall. Rafael Devers’ deal is up after 2023. For the Red Sox, keeping the core intact clearly needs to be a huge priority. But so far, little has been accomplished on that front.
