Eastwind Books of Berkeley is Beatrice and Harvey Dong’s labor of love for the Asian American and ethnic literary community. Founded in 1982, Eastwind Books is an independent bookstore that initially focused on Chinese language books. When it was set to close in 1996, Harvey and Beatrice bought the store, transforming it into one of the leading bookstores in the United States to focus on Asian American and Ethnic Studies.

District 65 receives $600,000 to continue CREATE 65 teacher residency program

Evanston/Skokie School District 65 was awarded a $600,000 grant Monday to continue its teacher residency program, according to a news release. The $600,000 will support CREATE 65, the district’s first-ever residency program, as it continues through the 2022-23 academic year. A one-year intensive teacher preparation program, CREATE 65 places new teachers into classrooms with students four days a week for a school year under the guidance of a district educator.

Last island of private land in Mt. Massive Wilderness purchased and transferred to Forest Service

The last remaining inholding of private property in the Mount Massive Wilderness is in the process of being transferred to ownership of the U.S. Forest Service. The move is significant because the 20-acre property is on the east side of Independence Pass and a popular trail cuts through it. Israel cancels mandatory Covid-19 tests for inbound travellers

Jerusalem, May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Foreign nationals flying to Israel will no longer be required to take a coronavirus test before boarding, the Israeli Health Ministry said. Earlier this May, the Ministry on Monday allowed foreigners to choose between PCR and antigen tests before boarding, instead of mandatory PCR only. The latest decision, however, cancels any testing requirement.

New artwork installed in downtown Rochester

(ABC 6 News) - Rochester leaders introduced a new art installation in Peace Plaza Monday. It's called 'Wakefield' and is part of the Heart of the City Phase 1 Project.
