Islanders' Mathew Barzal: Tickles twine late

Barzal scored a goal on three shots in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Lightning in Game 2. Barzal rounded out the scoring when he cleaned up a Jordan Eberle rebound with 3:16 left in the third period. It was Barzal's fifth tally of the postseason, all of which have come in the last six contests. The 24-year-old has 11 points in 14 playoff games overall.

Barzal scored a goal on three shots in Sunday's 2-1 win over Tampa Bay in Game 1. Barzal connected for the game's first goal 12:32 into the second period, driving to the net on a partial breakaway and slipping one five-hole before crashing into Tampa Bay netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy. After failing to light the lamp in any of his first eight playoff games, Barzal has now broken through for four goals in his last five contests. He has 10 points in 13 games overall.

Ever since New York Islanders captain Anders Lee went down with a season-ending injury back in March we knew that their best player, Mathew Barzal, would have to be just that. He would have to step up in a big way in order to lead his team to the playoffs and then step up yet again during the playoffs.

Barzal scored a goal on four shots and added a pair of blocks Thursday in a 2-1 overtime loss to Boston in Game 3. Barzal stayed on a loose puck at the side of the net and stuffed it past Tuukka Rask on his third try, squaring the game at 1-1 with 5:26 remaining in regulation. It was the first goal of the playoffs for Barzal, who had provided just four assists through his first eight contests. The 24-year-old tallied 17 times in 55 regular-season games.
